Robland is an online micronation created on 20 April, 2006 by Belgian
producer Rob Vanoudenhoven as part of a satirical TV series broadcast on
the Flemish-language commercial network VTM. Vanoudenhoven's show was
strongly influenced by the Danny Wallace series How to Start Your Own
Country, which screened on the BBC in the United Kingdom during
2005. Like Wallace, Vanoudenhoven set himself up as king of his
micronation, and proceeded to put in place various symbols of his
new country's supposed sovereignty, including his own currency - the Robbie. He
also unsuccessfully sought to establish relations with various sovereign
states and gain membership of international organisations during the course
of the series.
