The Northern Forest Archipelago is an environmentally-focused micronational parallel government that claims a number of privately-owned discontiguous wilderness territories in the northeastern United States. It was founded as a constitutional monarchy on 21 September, 1998 and is headed by King James III. Its capital is known as Backwoods. 

A community currency, known as the NFA Sweat Equity Buck, was introduced in 1998 in order to stimulate local economies within the NFA, and the group claims that the currency has since gained a broader degree of acceptance in the areas in which it is active. One NFASEB is equivalent to US $10.
