The
Dominion of British West
Florida is an internet-based micronation created on 29 November, 2005.
It is founded on an eccentric interpretation of actual historic events.
It
claims to represent an historic continuum with the real British colony
of the same name that was established in 1763 in areas of present-day
Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida, as part of the outcome of
the French and Indian War. The Dominion claims that changes in ownership
subsequent to 1763, which culminated in the eventual acquisition of the
territory by the United States in 1810, were illegal.
The Dominion claims
fifteen "active" members, and names them on it's website using such
titles as "Lord Bo, Baron von Servers" and "Lady Wildflower, Baroness de
la Bay". The real identities of these individuals are unknown. The micronation's Governor-General is identified only as "Duke Robert VII".
It is unknown who his six predecessors were, or from whom he received his
peerage.
The
Dominion's coins were produced by Jorge Vidal, a member of the Unrecognised
States Numismatic Society.
